The Queen of the ranch! Though outsized by most of our dogs, our Belgian Malinois and American Staffordshire Terrier mix calls the shots. Nobody messes with the queen; they worship her. Cali was the first dog on the ranch. She's sweet, smart, and an obsessive fetcher of anything she deems worthy.

His name taken from the Turkish word for king, Kral is the OG of our livestock guardian dogs and the top of the family tree. He is the lovable and loyal "big dog," weighing in around 200 lbs. This Kangal's personality fits his name: Regal and stoic (until duty calls); intimidating, fast, and deep-voiced when on alert. It is rumored that Kral thinks coyotes are crunchy. He loves to have his ears and belly rubbed and might give you a nudge to remind you he loves you.

The son of Kral, Bear was named for looking like a polar bear cub when he was a newborn. He's now in his prime and part of the "A-Team" along with Buck. The "A-Team" are our dogs that go on location with our grazing business's goat herds. Bear is always eager to go see new places and is irreproachable in his protection of his herd. Bear is a beautiful big dog with yellow wolf-like eyes that make you a little uneasy despite his loving disposition. Glad he's on our side!

Bear's nephew and Kral's grandson, Argus is the epitome of a happy dog. Still acting as if he's a puppy with a helicopter tail and tongue-wagging smile, this boy is living his best life. Argus holds down the home pasture and is a friend to all the animals that make the family on the ranch. Argus is absolutely gorgeous. He's our first label and our poster boy. With Egyptian-like eye-lined eyes and an extremely fluffy coat that puts fleece to shame, it's hard not to return the smiles that he gives everyone.

The second half of the "A-Team," Buck knows his purpose and loves it. We were told he is part Anatolian Shepherd and part Akbash. He eagerly scouts the perimeter of any area, taking responsibility for his territory and herd. Buck is the quintessential lovable-faced dog. Sweet and affectionate, with a slightly droopy, spotted-face look, everyone loves Buck and wants to keep him. Sorry—he's taken!

Lady arrived on the ranch with Buck. She fearlessly and ferociously defends our back pasture from intruders. Also thought to be part Anatolian Shepherd and Akbash, Lady is a vocal, very sweet girl who takes her role seriously. Lady is always welcoming and excited to play with others—especially if she gets pets.

Originally named after his breed, this Australian Kelpie has become a wizard at herding our goats. The newest dog on the ranch is still just a puppy, but he is mastering the art of herding quickly. Oz is full of energy and has an overwhelming desire to do his job well and make us proud. We are all grateful for Oz's talent and contribution as our bodies age. Go Oz, go!
